1. Introduction
Web Rings / The Toilet WebRing
Web Rings link similar sites together. A site declares itself member of
a ring by means of a banner on it's Home Page or another page in your site that meets the Toilet Webring criteria (outlined below). This banner has been called the server side navigation bar (SSNB), or simply, the navigation bar. With it, surfers can move around the ring and so stay within a toilet-related environment. Click here to see the current list of web sites in the Toilet WebRing.

2. How to join the Toilet WebRing
( The Criteria )
(1) The Toilet WebRing is composed of sites celebrating, through art, humor, education, and plumbing, one of the worlds finest modern conveniences: the toilet. Your Web Site should be suitable for
ages 13+ (think: Rated PG) and has to be somehow related to toilets. It should :
- feature a collection of toilet images, intended for education, art, or humor,
and / or
- provide information on toilet repair, plumbing services, supplies, etc
and / or
- feature stories, debates, and controversies surrounding toilets and toilet habits.
- keep private parts private!
(2) Your site must have webring javascript code (i.e.: it must be coded in readiness
to join the ring). This code is
referred to as the "navigation bar," "server side navigation bar," or SSNB code.
It is the
SSNB that creates the ring banner which everyone will see.
The SSNB must
be present on the submitted page (that's the URL you give to
the ring system). If users have to search for the Toilet WebRing banner on your
site then the ring is effectively broken. The Toilet WebRing banner must be
in an obvious place.
Note: Only you or your Web Site author can put this code
into your Web page.
3. Submission events (in outline)
(Stage 1) Click on the link below to submit your site to The Toilet Webring. You will be prompted to sign up for a free ID before joining. Upon submitting your site, you will receive an e-mail with a link to the Webring navigation bar code made especially for your web site. Also, your site will be added to a sub-system called the queue. Your site is in a queue along with other hopefuls waiting for the RingMaster to look at your site and screen it, to ensure your toilet pages measure up to the above criteria.
(Stage 2) Copy and paste the navigation bar code into the HTML file of the page you submitted to the Webring, and upload it to your site. The navigation bar should appear in your page as a gray bar with a few general links. The WebRing navigation links and ring logo won't appear until the RingMaster moves your site into the WebRing.
- Note 1: The RingMaster reserves
the right to decide which sites
will or will not be added to the ring.
- Note 2:
The Toilet WebRing is not responsible for the content of any of the sites
in this webring and any
complaint or concern regarding a site should be directed to the site owner.
(Stage 3) Inform the RingMaster that your site is ready. (Easy to forget to do this!)
The RingMaster doesn't know how long it will take you to complete stage 2 - you
must say when you are ready. Please allow the RingMaster a day or two to complete stages 4 and 5.
(Stage 4) The RingMaster will check your code. Your code must be
100% accurate for stage 5 to happen.
(Stage 5) The RingMaster adds you to the ring. (Your site details finally leave
the queue and join the other toilet sites in the ring list). At this point, the appearence of the navigation bar on your page changes slightly to include the Toilet WebRing logo and links to the other sites in the ring.
That's all there is to it!
