This bathroom celebrates an important step in a child's development: mastering the use of the toilet. As a father, I can tell you, that of all the stages towards complete independence that a child can take, this is one all parents are rooting for. Ridding your life of diapers and Wet Ones is so liberating, isn't it? Here's a tip for parents of potty-trained kids: use that money you're saving on diapers to save for your kid's college education.

This is me, your very own Toilet Museum curator, enjoying a tall cold drink on the toilet. God help me, I miss my bah-bah!

The photo you see below is Pipi Pigeon, by Robert Doisneau, taken in Paris in 1964. I picked this up in January 2000 in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam during a toilet-picture expedition. Sure, travelling from New York City to Amsterdam in search of toilet pictures is a bit excessive, but it's my job. Now if only I can figure out how to write it off as a business expense. |

New to both the online Toilet Museum and the real one, I had to tack this poster to the ceiling of my water closet because there is is no more room on the walls. Thanks to Matt Stone and Trey Parker for South Park, the irreverent, sophomoric, and brilliant satire on the American Way.

Crappy New Year, published by American Greetings. I picked this up during the 1999 holiday season but didn't get a chance to add it to the museum until January of 2000. Oh well. Crappy New Year anyway.

My Child's Education
Donated by The Richardson Family. Not only is she learning to use the toilet, but she's learing to read at the same time. Take note of the wooden toilet potty. It was made to order for this young productive student. |

Much to his parents dismay, little Bobby was determined to find the perfect sheet.
The inside reads, "Let the good times roll. Happy Birthday." Photo by Ray Ellis, printed in France, and published by the Marcel Schurman Company. |

Toilet Training by Lou Mack.
Our young model is sporting a button-backed long-sleeved cotton shirt, with pamper, rounded out with a toilet paper wrap. How chic! |
 |
I picked up this photo exactly 13 days after the birth of my beautiful daughter.
This toilet is dedicated to her.
(Touching, isn't it?) |

This is the son of one of my closest friends enjoying a not-so-private moment in a hotel bathroom. Of course, it would have been more private if his father wasn't taking this picture, but sometimes sacrifices need to be made for the sake of art. |

The family that goes together, grows together. This photo was sent in from Jean, from France. The boy on the left is Jean, and on the right is his sister. Two more photos contributed by Jean can be found below. Thanks for the pictures, Jean and family! |

This adorable little princess is Jean's daughter. The expresion on her face seems to say, "Dad, can you give the photo snapping a rest?" |
 |
Jean scanned this from a French text book on child education. I was lucky enough to find a postcard of this in Amsterdam, and can finally give the artist his due. The photo is entitled Maternelle, and was taken in Paris 1970 by Eddy van der Veen.
To think, if this photo were taken in America, there would have been criminal charges. Vive la différence.

When asked what he was doing with a copy of Playboy, this potty-training toddler remarked, "I just like to read the articles." Sent in by Kerry B, from Ontario, Canada.
