This bathroom celebrates an important step in a child's development: mastering the use of the toilet. As a father, I can tell you, that of all the stages towards complete independence that a child can take, this is one all parents are rooting for. Ridding your life of diapers and Wet Ones is so liberating, isn't it? Here's a tip for parents of potty-trained kids: use that money you're saving on diapers to save for your kid's college education.

The photo you see below is Pipi Pigeon, by Robert Doisneau, taken in Paris in 1964. I picked this up in January 2000 in the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam during a toilet-picture expedition. Sure, travelling from New York City to Amsterdam in search of toilet pictures is a bit excessive, but it's my job. Now if only I can figure out how to write it off as a business expense. | |

New to both the online Toilet Museum and the real one, I had to tack this poster to the ceiling of my water closet because there is is no more room on the walls. Thanks to Matt Stone and Trey Parker for South Park, the irreverent, sophomoric, and brilliant satire on the American Way.

My Child's Education

Jean scanned this from a French text book on child education. I was lucky enough to find a postcard of this in Amsterdam, and can finally give the artist his due. The photo is entitled Maternelle, and was taken in Paris 1970 by Eddy van der Veen.
To think, if this photo were taken in America, there would have been criminal charges. Vive la différence.
